2000 Citroen Xsara Picasso
Xsara Picasso has been one of the most popular people carriers ever made and makes up part of Citroen's wide range of people carriers that includes the far superior C4 Picasso . First introduced in 2000, the Xsara Picasso now feels pretty dated in terms of both design and cabin flexibility, but if you look past that you'll find a family car that's great value for money.

It's very useful too with plenty of cabin room and three individual full size seats in the back. There's plenty of space for those in the back, even those over six-feet tall, while superbly forgiving suspension and a smooth ride make it ideal for long journeys with children. It copes on more demanding roads too where the Xsara Picasso feels pretty composed for what is a fairly tall people carrier.

There is a little bit too much body roll, which isn't pleasant for those on board if you're tackling a long twisting route, while the artificial steering means it's not particularly enjoyable to drive either. The vague gear shift doesn't help matters either.

Overall, while it's cheap, the Xsara Picasso doesn't feel particularly robust or durable. The interior easily develops squeaks and rattles, the doors close with a empty 'clang' rather than a reassuring 'thud' and it's noisy on the motorway. But the one saving grace is the impressive 1.6 HDI diesel engine which will average 55.4mpg.

There are better people carriers around, but for sheer value for money, few can match the Citroen Xsara Picasso. It certainly represents plenty of family car for your money.

Citroen Pluriel-1999
INTRODUCTION:The Pluriel is a new concept unveiled by Citroën at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show. This research prototype, which follows the C3 and C6 Lignage concept cars, illustrates the broad styling principles of a modular car that will take its place in the Citroën range at some point in the future. The multi-faceted Pluriel is the result of Citroën's research studies and innovation in new automotive concepts. It does not fit into any of the traditional vehicle categories. A vehicle of significant interior and - more particularly - exterior modularity, Pluriel changes its body style to adapt to a wide variety of uses.

SPECIFICATIONS:Similar to the Saxo, the C3 featured an engine lineup that included a 1.1L, 1.4L and 1.6L petrol engines, along with a 1.4L diesel. The C3's chassis will also be used for the upcoming Peugeot 1007, in accordance with PSA Group policy. Many components of the C3 are identical to those of the Peugeot 206.

DESIGN:The rear seat of the Pluriel is designed to retract into the floor. The load area of each variant can thus be extended and the vehicle turned from a 4-seater into a 2-seater. The boot hatch opens downwards, extending the load floor and making it easy to transport long objects. Moreover, the boot does not have to be emptied to reach the false floor. A sliding plate is provided for this purpose.

CONCLUSION:The Pluriel is a research prototype exploring the concept of several vehicles in one. Designed to bring users the comfort of a saloon, the laid-back style of a convertible, and the practical versatility of a pick-up - all at the same time - it demonstrates Citroën's ability to move beyond the contradictions inherent to existing vehicles and to respond to changes in the needs, requirements and tastes of the public.
